about

A turning point moment where life seems to be starting to look up just a bit, while still exploring longing and life desires, fighting frustrations, and looking for courage to be my true self. Written in Far West Texas at the Crooked Crow songwriting retreat, Jana Pochop’s electric guitar swells and sparkles evoke the night sky and wide desert landscape where the song was born.

lyrics

The door is a dance
Between the kitchen and the car
Take me to Texas, take me to breakfast
Take me to towns I’ve not seen

I wake in a world
between fear and forgiveness
Sometimes there’s crying
Sometimes there’s lying
Sometimes there’s burgundy,
Sometimes there’s green

The ember of empathy is burning
Bright and bold in the pit of my chest
And I think it’s a sign that I’m gonna be fine
Despite all my days of unrest
There’s a window of wildness and willing
Where whatever I want seems to fly
And I think it might mean that it’s time to come clean
About what I actually desire

The coin is a key
Between wanting and having
I keep coming close, I keep losing rope
I keep finding faith in the strength of my feet

I step on a stage
Between sinking and swimming
Praying for grace
Praying for space
Praying to be heard
Praying to be seen

The ember of empathy is burning
Bright and bold in the pit of my chest
And I think it’s a sign that I’m gonna be fine
Despite all my days of unrest
There’s a window of wildness and willing
Where whatever I want seems to fly
And I think it might mean that it’s time to come clean
About what I actually desire

Cuz the door is a dance, and I wake in a world
Where the coin is a key, so I step on a stage
And it’s time to come clean
